Device Description:

Ultrasonic spraying serves as a high-efficiency and cost-effective fabrication technique for proton exchange membrane fuel cells. This technology effectively inhibits the agglomeration of precious metal catalysts caused by uneven dispersion and precipitation during operation. It enables uniform catalyst distribution across the electrode surface, sustains stable catalytic activity in chemical reactions, and significantly enhances the comprehensive performance of fuel cell electrodes.

In the practical ultrasonic spraying procedure, precious metal catalysts including iridium oxide and platinum oxide are blended with high-specific-surface-area carbon black. Perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) is then incorporated into the mixture to prepare a homogeneous carbon-based catalyst slurry. The prepared ink is subsequently atomized into micron-scale droplets via high-frequency ultrasonic atomizing nozzles operating at 60 kHz or higher. These fine droplets are uniformly deposited onto the gas diffusion layer (GDL), forming a dense and consistent carbon-based catalyst coating.

Attention :

1. Precious metal catalyst precipitation control:

A 40K ultrasonic dispersion system is installed inside the spray injector to efficiently suppress precipitation of the precious metal catalyst solution. Reducing the spacing between the injector and the nozzle also minimizes raw material loss and improves material utilization.

2. Nozzle selection:

Nozzle types are selected according to practical spraying requirements. Convergent or wide-diameter nozzles can be chosen based on the target spraying area, while the ultrasonic operating frequency is determined by the physical properties of the catalyst solution.

3. Spraying flow rate:

A constant spraying flow rate of 0.2 mL/min is typically adopted to achieve a smooth and uniform catalyst coating. This parameter is flexible and can be fine-tuned appropriately to adapt to actual experimental conditions.

4. Heated adsorption platform:

A microporous ceramic heating adsorption platform is applied in the spraying process to maintain the flatness of the membrane substrate. When the heating temperature is controlled at approximately 65 ℃, both catalyst adhesion and coating drying efficiency can be significantly accelerated.

5. Motion trajectory strategy:

The nozzle follows a standard I-shaped reciprocating motion path (forward, backward, left and right). The catalyst suspension is deposited layer by layer through this scanning movement, ensuring even distribution of every droplet on the electrode surface and forming a homogeneous coating.
